Solo Trip

I just returned from my first EVER solo trip.

I booked myself two nights in a cute little cottage near Lake Michigan. I planned almost nothing except the accommodation.

Have you seen the movie Serendipity? Do you know the part where Kate Beckinsale and Molly Shannon come out of the hotel, and Kate puts her finger up to feel the wind and says, “This way!” and then they just randomly go from one place to another all day? That was what I wanted to do on this trip. And do it, I did.

I pottered around some shops. I walked out on a pier to get a good view of the lighthouse and watch the seagulls coast in the wind.

I ate ice cream every day - always a Michigan-themed named one. I had St. Joesph Mud and Michigan Pot Hole.

I ate the Michigan Pot Hole in a decidedly not minimalist ice cream shop. Who wants to dust all that?

I stuck with my yoga and rolled out my mat every single day.

I bought myself Brie and expensive crackers and made myself a fancy snack each day.

I sat on the front porch and felt the sun and listened to the wind move through the trees.

I took a long walk on the beach and enjoyed the sound of the waves. I dipped my toes in the (very cold) lake water. I am almost 40 years old and had never touched a lake before.

I bought a nice frozen pizza and some wine and had a lovely dinner and solo dance party in my cottage.

I sat on the couch and knitted some love into my current projects.

I was obsessed with this green velvet couch. This picture doesn’t do the true color justice.

I attempted to go back to the beach and watch the sunset. Even though I thought I was prepared, I got too cold.

Close enough to sunset. :-)

It is simply the best and most restorative thing I have done for myself in literal YEARS. I felt joy. I had some a-ha moments. I treated myself like I was taking myself on a really great date. It was wonderful.

I highly recommend a solo trip every once in a while. Have you done one?
